The best days start with eating from a bowl made of bacon, which happens to be a specialty of Mike’s. After our amazing breakfast, Jess pried us out of her house and brought us back to the trail.

Our first 0.1 mile of the trail could not be completed, as the brook we needed to cross was so swollen from the rain the night before. Luckily, there was a bad weather re-route we could take, unluckily, it was a 1 mile road walk! Road walking would become the theme of our day. Apparently CT has taken a very pragmatic approach to building bridges over brooks and streams for the AT – why bother when roads already have perfectly good bridges?

Although we spent our day alternating between a mile on the road and a mile in the woods, we were still lucky enough to see unique features such as the above lemon squeeze! We were also lucky enough to catch up with The Voice who weathered the storm in a hotel nearby. The three of us made our way to the Toy Maker’s Cafe in Falls Village where the owners let hikers camp out in the back for free. We had a lovely evening with the yard all to ourselves, with the voice singing us medieval German songs until we fell asleep.

Did I say three of us? I meant four….
