Pennsylvania in 12 days!

Pennsylvania’s sign budgets got hit pretty hard by Sequestration.

This is our new goal, because if we don’t have one then we won’t get through Pennsylvania.  That being said, on the first day of PA the state gave to us:
Trail magic in a campground!

But I’m getting ahead of us.  First of all, Pennsylvania has treated us great so far.  It hasn’t been any rockier than Maryland, although we’ve been warned by plenty of locals that the northern section will get our attention.  The shelters so far though have been pretty amazing.  This one even had a ‘snoring’ and ‘non-snoring’ shelter, a thoughtful edition that almost made us cut our day short and stay the night.  This is why we set a goal.

Despite our playful day in the state, the flat terrain got us through PA quickly and the three of us hiked into the amazing trail magic in Caledonia Park just in time to find three ears of corn, three baked potatoes, and a pot of barbeque waiting for us.  We also found Frodo, Winterborn, and Quinoa waiting for us with Greenlight and TopGear, who we’d been waiting to meet.  We sat around the campfire and made s’mores while our hosts played us some music and we all discussed the upcoming half gallon challenge, where hikers crossing the actual half way point on the trail have to eat half a gallon of icecream.  We’ll be debating strategies for the next couple days.  In the meantime, we got a real shower from the campground and fell asleep to the sound of rain on our tent.
