7/29 Brink Road Shelter (14.1)

It was a beautiful day to be in Jersey.  We took a good part of the day to get back to the trail, but we made our way back to the Mohican Outdoor Center eventually.

The day was full of ridge climbs and views, including this fire tower:

Then we descended into some marshy lowlands where we uncovered a subversive mammalian resistance against the AT.

Beaver Sabotage.

The water sources haven’t been great, but we had fun with this creative alternative provided:

Overall, though, the trail has been a veritable highway since we left PA. Jersey has had a lot of variety broken up by smooth gravel roads:

You would think this would speed us up, but if anything it seems to be slowing down our pace as we explore and stop for every view and passing novelty. Fortunately, we stopped for this totem of Rattlesnake Mountain lying in our path near the top:

After we were rebuffed by another petulant rattler, we watched the sun set from the top and hiked our last few miles in the dusk to the Brink shelter.
